Coulee Region falls to Brookings in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Brookings Blizzard pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Coulee Region Chill on a clutch goal by Cody Marooney.


Marooney was all over the ice for Brookings, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Marooney scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:01 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The Blizzard had gotten the advantage when Coulee Region's Hunter Anderson was sent off for hooking. Marooney's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Brookings with 15:42 left in overtime.

Brookings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Blizzard's offense was clicking better than usual and put 47 shots on goal during the game, better than the 30.4 shots per game they average.

Brookings also got a goal from Justin Moody as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Bryce Gustafson, Drew Brevig, Nick DeCenzo, Thomas Williams, and Matt Youso, who contributed one a piece.

Brookings was unable to stop the Chill from sending pucks towards the net, and Coulee Region eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

The Chill were led by Garrett Hendrickson, who registered one goal and one assist. Hendrickson scored 18:20 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Sean Lang provided the assist. Coulee Region also got points from Jesse Tredinnick, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mac Jansen also scored for Coulee Region. More assists for Coulee Region came via Derek Smith, who had one.

The Blizzard's Erick Majerle stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Brookings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Aaron Davis made 42 saves for Coulee Region on 47 shots. The Chill incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
