The Chill were back on the ice this past weekend to take on the New Ulm Steel after a long break, their previous game was on Oct. 13th against the Milwaukee Power. However, the Chill picked up right where they left off. The team traveled to New Ulm, Minn. for their first game against the Steel at New Ulm Civic Center on Friday night.

The Chill took charge during the 1st period, scoring twice and taking a 2-0 lead with goals from defenseman Blake Holmes (7:24; Toon De Schepper, Brady Lindauer) and forward Flavien Fondadouze (13:48; Brandon Ratzloff, Donny Schultz). The Steel cut the Chill’s lead to one, scoring the lone goal of the 2nd period. In the 3rd period the Chill froze the Steel in their place and scored five unanswered goals to end the game. With goals from forward Brandon Ratzloff (5:13; Flavien Fondadouze), defenseman Blake Holmes (8:10; Toon De Schepper, Brandon Ratzloff) with his second of the weekend on the power play, forward Brady Lindauer (11:15; Thomas Magnavite, Toon De Schepper), forward Thomas Magnavite (14:23; Blake Holmes, Brady Lindauer), and defenseman Keaton Caplis (17:06; Connor Losen). The Chill take home the 7-1 win.

Goalie Luke Weberg played the full 60 minutes in net, saving 24 out of 25 shots in the game.

On Saturday, the team was back on home ice for game two of the weekend against the Steel. Early in the 1st period, the Steel are the first to strike and they take the lead 1-0. Then it all starts becoming a flash back to Friday night for the Steel, the Chill take the 4-1 lead at the end of the 1st period with goals by forward Brandon Ratzloff (9:49; Brady Lindauer, Blake Holmes), forward Thomas Magnavite (14:18; Laudon Poellinger, Keaton Caplis), Magnavite again just three seconds later (14:21; Laudon Poellinger, Toon De Schepper), and forward Aslan Akervik with his first goal of the season (17:29; George Nuutinen, Brock Zukowski). The Chill repeat their 1st period performance, adding another four goals in the 2nd period to double their lead to 8-1. The 2nd period goals were scored by defenseman Blake Holmes (4:39; Flavien Fondadouze, George Nuutinen), forward Brandon Ratzloff with his second goal of the game (6:49; Toon De Schepper, Brady Lindauer), defenseman Chase McLaughlin with his first goal of the season (8:47; Aslan Akervik, George Nuutinen), and forward Brody Boyce rounding out the 2nd period scoring (11:38; Ryan Wolf, Connor Losen). The 3rd period was a battle between the two teams, with a lot less goals scored and a lot more penalties taken. The Steel get their second tally of the night at the 15:07 mark, but the Chill make their last mark on the score sheet just two seconds later with a goal by defenseman Connor Losen (15:09; Gadel Khismatullin, Brody Boyce) to secure the 9-2 victory and the weekend sweep.

Goalie Devin Naidow gets the win in net, playing the full 60 minutes and stopping 29 of the 31 New Ulm shots. With the sweep of New Ulm, the Coulee Region Chill improve to 5-2-0 for the season.

Coming up this weekend, the Chill have 3 home games at Green Island Ice Arena against the Peoria Mustangs on Nov. 2nd at 7 PM, Nov. 3rd at 7 PM, and Nov. 4th at 12 PM. The Chill have already played Peoria once this season and ended up defeating the Mustangs 6-1.
